Visual Analysis Report : Solider photograph & Hospital Photograph (Reviewed) 20/09/16
I was sent 2 photographs from ‘David Lawson’ who is a PSI Researcher, He was sent 2 photos from 2 different people both with odd visual anomalies captured, 1 is in a bar and looks like a war soldier is captured in the photograph, the other is in a hospital and looks like a white shadow figure has been captured.
David explained how he likes my writing about the paranormal, and said...
‘I’d like to share 2 pictures that came to me over the last few months.
There are not published online anywhere so I thought i’d let you see them.’
My partner (Kelly) who use to run teamgii with me is great at visual analysis, and she helped with reviewing these photographs.
Its important to note, that analysing other peoples photographs is difficult because you wasn't there, there is a lot of natural elements in photographs that can create false anomalies – something out of view will bounce into the image, analysis is purely face value.
The hospital photograph i do not believe to be a deliberate hoax, as you can see in the above photo, The anomaly is parallel to the wall on both sides, which i think was caused by the bright light going into the camera lens and being reflected back into the viewfinder to appear in the photograph - the figure that is seen is only created by our mind (Pareidolia) but truly its completely random and explainable as a photography error.
To Verify my theory of this i conducted some ‘Error Level Analysis’ or ELA on the photograph, below is a description of what ELA is.....
‘ELA highlights differences in the compression rate. Regions with uniform colouring, like a solid blue sky or a white wall, will likely have a lower ELA result (darker colour) than high-contrast edges. The things to look for: Edges ,Similar edges should have similar brightness in the ELA result.
All high-contrast edges should look similar to each other, and all low-contrast edges should look similar. With an original photo, low-contrast edges should be almost as bright as high-contrast edges.
Textures Similar textures should have similar colouring under ELA.
Areas with more surface detail, such as a close-up of a head, will likely have a higher ELA result than a smooth surface.
Surfaces Regardless of the actual colour of the surface, all flat surfaces should have about the same colouring under ELA.
Looks around the picture and identify the different high-contrast edges, low-contrast edges, surfaces, and textures. Compare those areas with the ELA results. If there are significant differences, then it identifies suspicious areas that may have been digitally altered’.
The results from ELA Are shown above.
As you can see the figure is not there its a ghost anomaly but nothing of a paranormal nature, false anomaly's happen very easy with digital cameras and mobile phones whenever there is a light source involved.
There is a chance that this could have been taken using a phoneapp as there has been similar ‘figures’ seen using apps for false ghost pictures, however the way that this image is flat on both corners of the walls make me come to the conclusion that is is caused the visible light in the picture.(like shining a torch into a mirror and seeing it reflect somewhere else)
The photograph taken in the Bar area has various inconstancy's with the photograph....
In below photo you can see the blue shirt with part of the army outfit in the background, it is the only area of his blue which has a thick outline to it and that seems very strange, it really stood out to us straight away.
I think this is a hoax because it looks like 2 separate photographs layered on top of each other, around the army man you can also see parts of the background of the wartime photo, this is where they haven't cleaned the photo fully and parts of the war photo are still in the photo of the bar.
Again this photograph could be created using a phoneapp, but it in our opinion it looks more like a double layer due to other unusual visuals can be seen in the photograph.
Also part of the black hat worn has part of this false anomaly showing as seen below.
Again to be sure of this i ran it through ELA, seen below.
As you can see there is nothing there,in the actual photographs real data.
Obviously this is my opinion and review and could be wrong, but i think there is enough reasoning and facts from software to 'Debunk' both photographs, due to natural causes and a blatant hoax.
Thanks to david for sending them to me for review, and thank Kelly for helping with the analysis.
